Learn more about the Shih Tzu.
All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.
About Harry | |
|
Harry is cute and cuddly and great company! He is house trained and walks well on a leash. He also has very good manners. For example, if he would like to join you on the couch he will sit and stare at you until you invite him up. He loves to play fetch with his toys, especially balls! He will bring the ball back to you and drop it at your feet over and over again. Harry is quite verbal. He doesn’t bark much (except at the typical times such as when someone comes to the door or walks by the house) but he likes to “talk” to people by making various growling sounds. It is so cute! While Harry likes to go for walks and to play, he’s also perfectly content to lay by your side, bask in the sun, or sit next to you as you work at your desk.
While Harry loves to meet new people he is also wary of them. For this reason, his new family will need to be willing to work with a trainer to help him work through his trust issues. He wants to make new friends but takes some time to warm up to them. If his new friend doesn’t respect his space, he will let them know to back off by giving a little growl. Once you give him his space, and he has a chance to get used to you, he will be your best friend. However, Harry hates to be picked up by anyone other than his “person,” so a home with young children probably would not be a good fit. Also, since he has those adorable short little legs he has trouble going up and down a full flight of stairs if they are not carpeted. (He has no trouble at all going up or down 6 or 7 uncarpeted steps, such as steps on a porch.)
Harry is friendly to dogs and doesn’t have much interest in cats (I’m sure he would be friends with a cat sister or brother. He just doesn’t pay attention to the few cats he has met in my neighborhood).
