All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

Smiling Foxhound looking for his forever family!

Hunter (a/k/a Tallboy, Cheese, Smiley, Schroeder, Happy) the smiling Foxhound is looking for his forever home!  He has many nicknames in our house since "Hunter" doesn't seem to fit him well - he is the most sweet, mild-mannered fella and the only thing he's hunting for is a family!

He was born with the cutest, most hopeful smile on his face and big brown eyes that look at you with such warmth and optimism.  How could such a sweet boy be left on his own to starve?  This honey of a dog was brought into a South Carolina shelter weighing a skeletal 35 pounds and estimated to be about 6 years old.  He eventually made his way to Reach Out Rescue and Resources in Maryland, and though still on the lean side, he loves to eat and has worked his way up to a healthy weight. Hunter is neutered, up to date on his vaccines and recently had a dental cleaning and one tooth removed, so he's all set in the teeth department!

We don't know his back story, but it seems like this is the first time Hunter has been in a home of any kind as he was petrified of entering houses at first. The poor guy also didn't know what to make of a dog bed!  Within days he learned that a house can be a safe and loving refuge and that dog beds are darn cozy, and now he loves both!

If you want a dog who gets along with any human or beast - Hunter is your pup!  He loves to play chase and wrestle with other dogs but he's not a hard charger or aggressive player - he is super-gentle when playing with our little guide dog puppy and is happy to cuddle up with her for naps.  He loves our cats - gives them a sniff and then walks off.  He is great with adults and kids of all ages and is thrilled to greet anyone walking in the door with his cheerful grin and wagging tale.

This boy loves his kennel and boy, it's so terrific to have a kennel-trained dog!  He sleeps in his kennel every night and he retreats to it on his own to nap or when he's done playing.

Hunter does really well on walks with his harness.  He loves to sniff along (as hounds do!) for a while and then settles into a nice pace but doesn't pull you down the street.  Added bonus - he is not leash reactive and hasn't barked at other dogs on our walks.  He'd love a walk or two a day but he isn't a high-energy dog that you need to wear out in order to have some peace and quiet.  Speaking of peace and quiet! Hunter is not very vocal - rather unusual for a hound.  He will sometimes bark when playing with other dogs, but otherwise his barks are few and far between - such as when he wants to be let back in the house or if he is super-excited about something.
