Bates needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

Bates is a sweet big guy looking for love. He has a heart full to give away and is hoping he can find a family or individual who will love him back for the great boy he is. Very friendly and outgoing, he would be so happy to go for walks or runs with you, play in the backyard, snuggle up next to you in the evening. In the prime of his life he is ready to be your best friend for a long time. He has an outgoing personality and seems to have gotten the very best of both family dog breeds all mixed up inside him. Collies and goldens are simply made for becoming best friends. This happy dog is waiting to rest his head against your knee, run and play, and look toward you with complete adoration with every beat of his heart. Yeah, he's that kind of dog!
Foster Update (5/8/11): Bates reached our rescue on Saturday night, May 7th, with a “light-positive” heartworm status. By Sunday morning it was clear that Bates’ condition had progressed to something much worse. RORR rushed Bates to the vet Sunday morning for initial treatment, blood work, and x-rays. His heartworm has enlarged his heart and is causing him to have trouble breathing. Because he is part Collie, we must be very vigilant since he cannot get the usual treatments, so alternative treatments are needed.
Foster Update (5/12/11): We've had him in our backyard just to get out and feel grass under his feet. I've taken him on a little walk a few times, but he can't handle that, and is usually winded. I have to carry him up the stairs. I've been told that this first month is very rough on him physically. He is supposed to get the series of 3 shots on 5/23 that will hopefully kill off the rest of the heartworms.
His manners are impeccable. I cannot describe how well mannered this dog is despite his fight for his life. He is AMAZING with my 2 yr-old son… It's been very quiet at our house - he sits upstairs in our room with a fan and open windows and not a peep. I can't tell you how awesome this dog is. He's simply such a joy.
