All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

Barney was rescued from a neglectful owner who kept him in a crate most of the first year of his life and didn’t even bother to take him to the vet for vaccinations.  The kind lady who rescued him got him up-to-date on vaccinations, had him neutered, and started teaching him what it was like to truly be loved.  At one and a half years old and 15 pounds, Barney is a lovable little mix that learns very quickly.  Give him attention and he will do everything he can to please you!  He is playful outside but cuddly inside.  He loves to snuggle up on your lap while watching TV.  He can sit, shake and fetch.  (He actually returns the stick!)  He’s currently working on stay and “drop it.”  His best “trick” is his ability to come reliably when called.  (A real treat for his rescue mom!)  He walks well on a leash and loves his walks.  Barney is ruled by his nose and would make a great dog for scent training.  Due to his innate desire to please, he would also make a great obedience or agility training dog. Wonderful news...he is house trained!

Barney does well with other dogs. (He is currently living with a smaller dog.)  He has never been around cats so that is an unknown.  Due to Barney’s lack of socialization when he was a puppy he is still learning the “rules” of life.  Although he bonded strongly with his foster family, he is still working on learning to trust people (especially strangers).  He can sometimes “air snap” when startled or accidentally hurt (i.e. if you step on his foot.)  For this reason, a home without young children would probably be best for him.  A gentle, consistent owner would do a world of good for Barney and he would love you forever!
