We said a little prayer when we picked up this dog and named her the first word that came to us in that plea...Mercy. Still so young, at only 2 years old, Mercy was the victim of an extreme cruelty case. Her body and soul have been healing with us now and the light is coming back into her eyes as she is given food, a soft place to rest, and is learning that humans do not always come with a stick with which to beat her. Her sweet and gentle nature is just blossoming. She is putting on weight with the good food we are giving her. Her foster calls her a "humble sweetheart" and notes she will need time and patience to completely get over her horrific past. We have done the job of healing her body now and the vet says she is in good shape. We are searching for a kind and gentle person or family who will keep up the work we have started and who will let Mercy feel what it is like to have a real family who looks at sticks like toys and not weapons. Mercy has shown us in every way she can that she wants to trust and though that hope is currently delicate, it is growing every day. Once she is surrounded by love and her own home, we know she will trust like she did when , not so long ago, she was a puppy just starting out in the world, before all the bad things happened. If you would like to be the one to show Mercy what it can be like, let us know. This is the true face of rescue. She is waiting for you.
A VERY SPECIAL NOTE FROM MERCY: Hi, my name is Mercy and I am a beautiful 2 year old Bassador. Yep, you got it. I am the best of both worlds- when I’m outside I love walks and to roll around in the grass and play fetch with a ball. When I’m inside I just want to chill with my humans, chew on an antler, and sleep. I had a pretty rough start at life living in Georgia, and people say I was a severe abuse case. That’s all past me now. Let me tell you the good things about me: 1) I love obedience training, and I catch on quick. In fact, within one month I mastered sit, stay, touch, and now I’m learning to lie down. It helps if you give me hot dogs, cheese or chicken as a treat; 2) I don’t pull on my leash during walks. All I need is a 30 minute walk each day; 3) I’m crate trained, and house trained; 4) I’m good with kids, even the two year olds; 5) I love car rides; and 6) all I really want to do is lay and snuggle with you in the evenings and watch TV. There are a few things you should know about me, because of my rough start in life, I’m anxious around other dogs. It’s best that I go to a home where I don’t have to worry about the pressure of interacting with other dogs. They make me uncomfortable. I am usually fine with dogs during walks and have been known to sniff a few. I’m also working hard to build up my confidence with food. I now eat either from my Kongs, my snuffle mat, or this big red cone that I have to move around to release my food. Foster mom says it slows down my eating and makes me work, I think it’s just fun. So if you are willing to take me into your home. I promise to be a good girl and provide you with all the love you need and hopefully you can do the same for me.
