Imagine that you are so tiny and want to be loved, but instead you find yourself on a heavy chain, attached to a filthy, derelict shed, away from everyone, exposed to the elements, snow, cold, rain. Then come the puppies. You have them in a hole you dug for a tiny bit of protection for your new little ones. You have these puppies still chained. In your hole. Nobody cares. At long last, after a year, a person with a caring heart sees you sitting there in the mud, and, through her tears, takes off the chain, finds a blanket in her car, and for the first time in your life, you have something warm and soft.
This tiny girl is now safe in foster, and, as her foster, I can tell you that when I first got her she would stand several feet away from me, waiting for me to hurt her. After a few minutes, she would , very slowly, come toward me. You can see it in her eyes in this picture..."Can I trust?". After several days, she would come and climb carefully onto my lap, waiting for the gentle hand she had learned to expect now. The real winner was when I scratched her right behind her little apple shaped skull. She actually closed her eyes in bliss and leaned her head against my chest. It was a wonderful moment, for both of us.
Are you someone who would go slowly with her? Give her time to know you, let her trust you? What joy you will have when you see her tail go up and wag when she sees you. She needs to go to a quieter home and, because of the fast movements , one probably without children. Imagine watching her open up and bloom under your care. She has an amazing desire to be loved. When she was a puppy, that desire was stomped, but it stayed deep inside her, a hope that maybe someday...Are you out there?
EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! UPDATE: It's been two weeks and it has me believing in true miracles. Dulcie has become a happy, friendly little girl, asking for petting, and, most of all, playful! She has found the puppyhood she never had. Still quite young at only about a year and a half, she loves her toys, especially her little Nyla bones. Sometimes she eyes my 100 lb. German shepherd's huge bone, and will try with all her strength to drag it away. It's bigger than she is! She prances around my livingroom like she owns it and displays pure joy whenever someone bends down to run a hand down her long back. She's a Chiweenie, of course! The highlight of any day now is going for a walk. She gets SO excited when she sees her harness and leash come out. But, she is such a good girl - she calms right down when I bend to put it on her, standing totally still to make it easy for me. She is so smart! She wants to please and tries hard to do what you want her to do. She is a tiny angel! Full of life and happiness. She is a princess and wants all the attention, so she should probably be an only dog, although she has made a few friends among other small dogs. She would be perfect for an individual or couple who want a dog who will adore them with every beat of her heart.
