All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

You say you are looking for a unique dog? And you like them sturdy? You want people to say "wow!" when you take him for a walk? Look no further. Only still a puppy, this guy is going to grow into a simply spectacular dog. And he's got the temperament to match. He is interested in the world around himself, exceptionally intelligent (meaning he just might be the best trained dog you have ever had), and friendly. Strong and healthy, to match those big bones, he is going to be quite a sight on the other end of your leash. His Leonberger heritage gives him other advantages, too. These dogs were bred as a companion animal, so he will be especially in tune with his family, waiting and watching for you to tell him what you want him to do. They were also bred to be affectionate, playful, and very good with children. They are loyal dogs beyond belief and will willingly give their lives for their family. Kodiak Pup is going to need an active family, as he will need something to do with that powerful body. A couch potato he is not. If you like the outdoors, hiking, jogging, running, camping, lots of physical exercise, Kodiak Pup is going to be one happy dog. He will be there right by your side. Many dogs of his heritage love the water, although we don't know that yet about our guy. So, a possible swimming companion, too. Kodiak Pup is a joyful dog who wants to live life to the fullest. If this describes you and/or your family, you have just found the perfect dog.
Per the vet's office, the vet loves this boy.. as does all the office personnel.. said he's very laid back, gentle and easy going but friendly. He has feathering like a setter but the coloring of a shepherd... whatever he is.. he is a love!
A SPECIAL NOTE TO YOU FROM HIS FOSTER: He is a good boy. Wants to please but still very much a puppy. Big kids could play with him, but I think little ones might get knocked over. Gets along well with my small neutered male dogs, sometimes he can get rough but if you tell him to calm down he will try to please. If introduced to cats and worked with, I think he would do ok. Right now if it runs he wants to chase, but not a mean bone in his body. Just needs obedience training. He is young and moldable.
Kodiak loves to play but shows respect to other dogs. In other words he knows when to quit playing and act like a gentleman. He plays with my Pit mix, Liz.
He so needs a good forever home. I let him loose around my barn when I can supervise and amazing he tends to stay around the barn and not drift off. He seems to want to stay in his comfort zone amazing for a dog less then a year old.
Being young and large, 59 lbs., he is strong and needs some obedience training but has a willing and desire to please attitude.
He would be great around older kids. Too big for toddlers except under strict supervision.
Took him to vet last Friday and he did quite well. Curious, but not so much that he was a disruption. Likes to check out cats but when I tell him no, he ignores them.
Rides nicely in car but is reluctant to get in.
