Mabel
It was a beautiful cool summer day yesterday when we said goodbye to our beautiful soul, Mabel. She collapsed in the morning and with her liver shot and the cancer spread to her lungs, she was having trouble breathing and she had stopped eating. She had a lovely day on a friend's farm the day before and she was with friends at the end, and went peacefully. She was only with us for a short while, but she stole our hearts and we will love her always. Myrtle sees that she's gone, but is coping very well. We're all off to the park in a few minutes and that will lift her spirits.

Maggie Girl
Maggie Girl April 23, 2012 Maggie Girl, a Basset Hound mix with beautiful big brown eyes, was one very special dog. She came from southern Virginia where she had spent her entire life, 2 years, chained in someone’s back yard. We don’t know all the details of her previous life, but her owner was jailed for animal cruelty so one shudders to imagine what her life must have been like. She had places on her ears and her back where hair wouldn’t grow and an injury to her back leg where she had gotten tangled up in her chain. She was heartworm positive when she was picked up by Animal Control and underwent several months of treatment. In spite of her rough start in life, Maggie was the sweetest, gentlest and most loving dog. She loved other dogs, cats, and everyone she met. Although cautious when meeting new people, she warmed up quickly and soon considered you a friend for life. Maggie loved her foster brothers, Shen and Charlie Joe Shadow, her adopted sister, Bailey, her feline brothers and sisters, and her adopters, Jeff and Beth. She liked to have her tummy rubbed, and had it exposed and ready for Jeff when it was “huggy tummy time” just before bedtime every night. Most of all, Maggie loved to run. She wasn’t very fast, but she could run for hours. She was a joy to watch with ears flopping, tongue hanging out, and a silly grinned pasted to her face. Her adoptive parents had a three acre fenced yard, and she took advantage of every inch. Jeff and Beth spent many mornings at the kitchen table drinking coffee and watching her out the window, running over a hill and then popping up somewhere else a minute later. She was truly “poetry in motion.” Tragically, Maggie contracted sepsis and passed away after a 48-hour struggle for life. All who met her are deeply saddened, but none more so than her adoptive parents, Jeff and Beth, her sister, Bailey, and foster mother, Mary, to whom she brought such joy in the short time we knew her. She was only with her foster mother for eight weeks, and her adoptive parents for six weeks. But this little girl carved out a special place in our hearts. She will never be forgotten. May you run happy and free in a field of clover in bright sunshine. We love you and miss you, Maggie Girl.

Marnie
Our beloved Marnie passed away today. She was adopted out of your program in 2011 at 13 years of age. We consider ourselves lucky to have had 3 years with her in our family.

Marty
Hello, I adopted Marty from RORR a couple of years ago (his name was Martin then). He changed my life and I loved him dearly. He was the most wonderful, loving, sweet, and gentle dog and I am so lucky that we found each other. He very unexpectedly died yesterday (I explained to details to his foster Jessica Simon), and I've made a memoriam donation to RORR. Thank you for bringing him into my life and helping all dogs and pets.

Merlin
.We were with him at the end but deeply anesthetized after continual seizures throughout the day he rallied and kissed us both. We're shattered. We tried so hard. He had a great year with us.
